        Published in 2001 by Canisius College Press, A Bird's-Eye View of Sights & Sounds offers a pictorial and musical survey of the Pan-American Exposition of 1901. The book features dramatic photos and musical sound-bytes of the event, with a colorful dialog and brilliant graphics. The accompanying audio CD includes the text, written and narrated by Raya Lee, and 12 musical selections, all performed on the pianola (an early version of a player piano) by Robert Berkman. Among the selections are:
        Maple Leaf Rag - Joplin
                             Scott Joplin, piano
        Intermezzo from Cavaleria Rusticana- Mascagni
                             the most popular tune of the time
        Ballade in G minor - Chopin
                             performed at the piano exhibit
        Invincible Eagle March - Sousa
                             composed for the Pan-American Exposition
                             and as a gift for the City of Buffalo
        Nearer My God to Thee - Mason
                             chosen by Sousa to accompany
                             "The Illumination" every evening
        Stars and Stripes Forever - Sousa
                             as you've never heard it

     With music at its heart, the Exposition was a grand celebration in Buffalo and an important event in the history of New York State and the United States.
